Attendance is always highest on the first Friday evening each month for the special Family Shabbat Service, which is more geared to families with young children. Instead of a sermon, Rabbi Shalhevet reads a storybook. The Religious School is innovative and education becomes a lifelong pursuit for congregants attending the many adult study programs -- including a semi-regular series of movie nights. Cantor Green plays the guitar and is one of those cantors whose goal is to sing with you -- not for you. The congregation also is blessed to have a beloved rabbi and cantor emeritus who served the congregation for 12 and 21 years, respectively, before retiring this summer.

The congregation is truly diverse. Situated on the North Shore of Long Island's Suffolk County, the synagogue draws congregants from neighboring Brookhaven Town communities of Port Jefferson, Miller Place, Rocky Point, Wading River, Middle Island, Ridge, Coram, Selden, Centereach -- as far west as Stony Brook and Setauket and as far east as Shoreham.

We've been members of this wonderful congregation since 1988, but don't take our word for it -- come any Friday night and see for yourself ...

This is a small but thriving Reform congregation entering its 25th year with a new rabbi and cantor. Temple Beth Emeth prides itself on its close-knit temple family and its ability to strike a balance between innovation and Jewish tradition. There's no office, no custodian or administrators. Volunteers handle everything from building repairs to tutoring bar and bat mitzvah students.

For those who may feel disenfranchised, TBE is a welcoming shul that accepts all your differences. It prides itself in its egalitarianism and its quest for understanding in a world rife with misunderstanding.
